Sister Margaret Exworthy, O.P.

Sister Margaret joined DePorres P.L.A.C.E. in September 2000 as Program Director, responsible for curriculum development and organizing all classes. She became Director in September 2003. Sister Margaret has over 40 years of experience in education as a teacher, principal, director and superintendent. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in English and Chemistry, and minors in mathematics, biology and physics from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. She holds a Master of Science degree in Curriculum Development, Administration and Supervision of Elementary and Secondary Schools from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. In addition, she has completed 15 hours toward a Doctorate in Education from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts.

Assistant to the Director
Nancy N. Parker

Nancy joined DePorres P.L.A.C.E. in September 2003. She is responsible for writing all grants proposals, planning special events, and for community relations. She is also a part-time tutor. Nancy has completed two tutor-training courses for Pro-Literacy America, completed the Wilson Reading System Overview Workshop, and the 18-Hour On-Line Basic Training Skills Trainer Workshop with Pro-Literacy America, a pre-requisite to becoming a certified tutor-Trainer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Journalism from San Jose State University, San Jose, California.

Literacy AmeriCorps Volunteers

DePorres Place is an approved Literacy AmeriCorps service site. Literacy AmeriCorps is an adult and family literacy program administered nationally by Literacy America and funded by a National Direct Grant by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Locally, the Literacy AmeriCorps Program is overseen by the Palm Beach County Literacy Coaltion. Literacy AmeriCorps Members give one year of their lives to make a difference in their community. They must complete a minimum of 1700 hours of service during that year.
